On January 1, 2023, California raised its statewide minimum wage to $15.50 per hour. However, depending on which location the employees are located at within the state, they may also be subject to other minimum wage increases beginning July 1, 2023.
Several localities in California will raise their minimum wage on July 1, 2023:
- Alameda: $16.52
- Berkeley: $18.07
- Emeryville: $18.67
- Fremont: $16.80
- City of Los Angeles: $16.78
- County of Los Angeles (unincorporated areas only): $16.90
- Malibu: $16.90
- Milpitas $17.20
- Pasadena: $16.93
- San Francisco: $18.07
- Santa Monica: $16.90
- West Hollywood: $19.08 (regardless of number of employees).
All employers must ensure that the minimum wage postings in the workplace are updated to appropriately reflect these increases. None of these minimum wage changes have any effect on the minimum salary requirements for exempt employees in California.
