2013 has been a busy year for legislatures in the employment law realm. The following are important changes for the New Year:
1. Minimum Wage Increases (note that minimum wage posters should be updated):
a. New York: $8.00, effective 12/31/13
b. New Jersey: $8.25, effective 1/1/14
c. Connecticut: $8.70, effective 1/1/14
2. New York City Pregnant Workers Protection Act Notice: The notice must be provided to new employees upon hire and to existing employees by May 30, 2014.
3. Adjusting Sick Leave/PTO Policy
a. New York City Earned Sick Time Act, effective 4/1/14 (as reported in a prior newsletter)

b. Jersey City Paid Sick Leave Law, effective 1/24/13
