What Are the Minimum Wage Updates for 2025?

In 2025, states and localities will be raising their minimum wages. The new minimum wages came into effect on January 1, 2025, unless otherwise noted. The wages below do not apply to tipped employees.

Below is a list of the minimum hourly wage increases for certain jurisdictions. Contact our Firm if you need information on other jurisdictions’ minimum wages that are not listed below.

California Minimum Wage

  • $16.50 per hour

California Cities Minimum Wage

  • Cupertino: $18.20 per hour
  • Los Altos: $18.20 per hour
  • Oakland: $16.89 per hour
  • Palo Alto: $18.20 per hour
  • San Diego: $17.25 per hour
  • San Jose: $17.95 per hour
  • Santa Clara: $18.20 per hour
  • Sonoma:
    • Under 26 employees: $16.96 per hour
    • Over 26 employees: $18.02 per hour
  • South San Francisco: $17.70 per hour
  • West Hollywood: $19.65

Connecticut Minimum Wage

  • $16.35 per hour

Florida Minimum Wage

  • $14.00 per hour (effective September 30, 2025)

Illinois Minimum Wage

  • $15.00 per hour

New Jersey Minimum Wage

  • $15.49 per hour

New York Minimum Wage

  • New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester Counties minimum wage will be $16.50 per hour.
  • Everywhere else in the state will increase to $15.50 per hour.

New York Salary Rate Increases

Effective as of January 1, 2025, the New York State salary basis threshold for the executive, administrative, and professional employees has increased as follows:

  • $1,237.50 per week (or $64,350 annually) in New York City, Westchester County, Suffolk County, and Nassau County.
  • $1,161.65 per week (or $60,405.80 annually) in the remainder of New York State.

Federal Salary Rate Increases

Effective as of January 1, 2025, the federal salary basis for the executive, administrative, and professional employees has also increased as follows:

  • $1,128 per week (or $58,656 annually).
