25 states are raising their minimum wage in 2022. These states include, but are not limited to, California, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York. The minimum wage of Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties also increased. The new minimum wage comes into effect on January 1, 2022, unless otherwise noted. These wages do not apply to tipped employees.

Below is a list of minimum wage increases in jurisdictions relevant to our clients.

California

  • 25 or less employees: $14.00.
  • 26 or more employees: $15.00.

California Cities

Please note that only major cities are listed. Major cities with a minimum wage of $15.00 have been excluded, as it is the same amount as the state.

  • Cupertino: $16.40.
  • Los Altos: $16.40.
  • Oakland: $15.06.
  • Palo Alto: $16.45.
  • San Francisco: $16.32.
  • San Jose: $16.20.
  • Santa Clara: $16.40.

Connecticut

  • $14.00, effective 7/1/2022.

Florida

  • $11.00, effective 9/30/2022.

Massachusetts

  • $14.25.

New Jersey

  • non-seasonal employers with 6 or more employees: $13.00.
  • seasonal employers and employers with 5 or less employees: $11.90.

New York 

  • $13.20, effective 12/31/21.
  • Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester: $15.00.
  • New York City will remain the same at $15.00.

New York State Salary Rate Increases 2021

The New York salary basis threshold for the executive and administrative exemptions will increase as follows:

  • New York (excluding NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester): $990 per week ($51,480 annually), effective 12/31/21.
  • Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester Counties: $1,125 per week ($58,500 annually) effective 12/31/21.

New York City retains the prior rate of $1,125 per week ($58,500 annually).
